Tony Williams was not only one of the most original and influential drummers in jazz history, but a fine composer and a visionary leader. It is to this multifaceted figure that Roberto Gatto thought to dedicate his new project, commissioned by the Fondazione Musica per Roma. “Another exciting challenge, I am very happy to be working on this project about one of my landmarks, an innovator, but above all a great band leader and composer. Tony Williams represents the most complete there has been in the jazz scene since the 1960s. Honored to be able to pay tribute to him together with a group of extraordinary musicians and friends – Alfonso Santimone, Umberto Fiorentino, Marcello Alulli and Pierpaolo Ranieri,” he commented. Roberto Gatto will highlight all this with his own ability and sensitivity as a drummer, composer and leader.
