Martux_m & Nils Petter Molvaer, “Meditation”
The meeting between Martux_m and Nils Petter Molvaer, comes from afar. The first concert together was in 2013 in Rome, and right in the spaces of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in the summer event Luglio Suona Bene, exactly ten years ago. Their collaboration also continued discographically when in 2021 Nils Petter Molvaer asked Martux_m and Bill Laswell to reinterpret the song “Nearly Invisible Stitches” on the album “Stitches” for BMG Records. As we said, after a 10-year absence in Italy, the duo is coming to Rome again with a new premiere project entitled “Meditation,” a project that was born in the pandemic period in a long-distance collaboration. “Meditation,” has no reference to religious spirituality, but focuses its attention in “feeling,” listening, to be more precise I would say to a reflective meditation on the whole world around us. The result is an unprecedented sound that crosses all genre boundaries: ambient, contemporary, glitch electronica, minimal techno, and jazz all merge into one sound, making this work one of a kind.
Furio Di Castri, “Zapping”
Double bassist Furio Di Castri, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the death of Frank Zappa (1940-1993), offers “Zapping,” his tribute to the master. The idea behind the concert is to present original songs and reinterpretations of jazz classics conceived as the “mustachioed Frank” would have done: an operation that promises endless sonic sparks in a multifaceted mix of styles. A musical project that moves against genre divisions, rediscovers a taste for extreme forays and sudden deviations, in homage to a master of the contemporary like Zappa. With this new ensemble Di Castri devotes himself to the personal construction of a hypothetical world in which jazz or soul groove meets Zappa‘s transgression and irony, throwing an unexpected bridge between scattered and separated traces of our memory.
