Dave Holland is a bassist, composer, bandleader whose passion for musical expression of all styles and dedication to creating consistently innovative musical ensembles has propelled a professional career of more than 50 years and earned him top honors, including numerous Grammy awards. Holland is a guiding light for acoustic and electric bass, having grown up in an era when musical genres-jazz, rock, funk, avant-garde, folk, electronic music and others-were freely blending to create new musical paths. He first rose to prominence in groundbreaking groups led by legends such as Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Sam Rivers, Betty Carter and Anthony Braxton, as well as collaborations with the likes of Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Jack DeJohnette and John McLaughlin. Today he is most celebrated for the bands he continues to assemble, record with which he performs: ensembles that range from duos and trios to big bands, and often include musicians such as Steve Coleman, Robin and Kevin Eubanks, Jason Moran, Chris Potter, and Eric Harland. The constant priority that binds all of Dave Holland ‘s projects is a constant sense of challenge, toward himself, his fellow musicians, and his listeners. For his return to the House of Jazz, he chose to debut with a brand new quartet.
